Johannes Zittartz is a German physicist, born on June 14, 1938, in Remscheid. He is an emeritus professor of theoretical physics at the University of Cologne. He earned his doctorate in 1964 and held postdoctoral positions in the U.S. He has made significant contributions to statistical physics and solid-state physics, particularly relating to electron states in random potentials and the Kondo effect. Many of his students have become professors, and Zittartz has received several prestigious awards throughout his career, including honors from the Göttingen Academy and the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science.
