Johan Hendrik (Hans) Petrie was a Dutch historian born on July 15, 1943, in Deventer. He gained recognition for his thesis, which he defended on June 8, 1995, at the University of Groningen, titled 'Lodewijk XVII-Naundorff, een mysterie ontrafeld'. In it, he argued that Karl Wilhelm Naundorff, who claimed to be King Louis XVII of France after the French Revolution, was an impostor. DNA testing later confirmed his theories. Petrie also conducted related research for the Assen municipality and passed away on November 9, 2004, in Groningen.
