Joseph Paul Tierney was an American sprinter born on February 8, 1903, in New Haven, Connecticut. He represented the United States in the 400 meters at the 1928 Olympics, finishing fourth in his quarter-final. Tierney achieved his lifetime best and the best world time of 1925 in the 440-yard distance, winning the IC4A title with a time of 47.9 seconds. He lived to be 101 years old, making him one of the few centenarian Olympians.
