George 'Jock' Purdon was a British poet and songwriter born on 16 November 1925 in Nitshill, Glasgow. Spending much of his life working as a coal miner, he became known as 'the miners' poet'. His experiences shaped his poetry and songs, often reflecting the struggles and camaraderie of miners. Purdon was a 'Bevin Boy' during World War II and engaged in political activism through his work. He performed at events supporting miners and published several collections, including 'Pitworks, Politics & Poetry'. He passed away in 1998.
