Joaquín Aguirre Lavayén was a Bolivian writer, businessman, diplomat, and inventor, born on March 30, 1921, in Cochabamba and passed away on January 7, 2011, in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. He was the grandson of the politician and writer Nataniel Aguirre. Aguirre Lavayén founded and served as president of Central Aguirre Portuaria S.A., a port infrastructure project that provided Bolivia, a landlocked country, access to the sea through the Paraguay-Paraná river waterway.
