João Pedro Teixeira was a prominent activist for rural labor rights in Sapé, Paraíba, Brazil. Born on March 4, 1918, he became a symbol of resistance against the criminalization of social movements in the countryside, especially leading up to the military coup in 1964. His dedication to the rights of rural workers earned him the status of a folk hero. Tragically, he was assassinated on April 2, 1962, at the age of 44, while returning from a trip, under orders from local landowners.
