João Antônio Mascarenhas (October 24, 1927 – 1998) was a prominent Brazilian advocate for human and civil rights of homosexuals. Born in Pelotas and later residing in Rio de Janeiro, he played a crucial role in the gay rights movement in Brazil. He co-founded the magazine O Lampião da Esquina and the Grupo Homossexual Triângulo Rosa. In 1977, he collaborated with US editor Winston Leyland, contributing to the awareness and advocacy for LGBT rights in Brazil, marking a pivotal point in the Brazilian homosexual movement.
