Jo Freeman (born August 26, 1945) is an American feminist, political scientist, writer, and lawyer. She became active in civil liberties organizations and the civil rights movement as a student at the University of California, Berkeley during the 1960s. Freeman contributed to voter registration and social organizing in Alabama and Mississippi, and was one of the early organizers of the women's liberation movement. She has authored numerous classic feminist articles, significant research on social movements, and political parties, and wrote extensively on women, particularly regarding law, public policy, and women's roles in mainstream politics.
