Jiří Harcuba was a Czech glass artist, glyptic artist, medallist, and educator born on December 6, 1928, in Harrachov. He was a political prisoner during the Communist normalization period and became a teacher at various American and British universities after 1982. He served as the rector of VŠUP from 1991 to 1994 and founded engraving schools in Corning and Pilchuck, as well as an international school. He passed away on July 26, 2013, in Prague.
