Jimmy Lytell was an American jazz clarinetist born James Sarrapede on December 1, 1904. He began his professional career at the age of twelve and was active in the jazz scene during the 1920s, playing with notable groups like the Original Indiana Five and the Original Memphis Five. After the 1920s, he focused on studio and orchestra work, becoming a staff musician for NBC. Lytell continued to perform and record until a year before his death on November 28, 1972, and is regarded as one of the underrated clarinetists in jazz history.
