He also went by the names Brandon Adams, Jim Waldrop, and Todd Avery. King passed away on December 5, 1986, at the age of 31 due to complications from AIDS, shortly after the death of his lover, John Murphy, who succumbed to the same illness. King is buried at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas.
