One of her notable works, A Shred of Evidence, was adapted into a television drama in 2001. McGown began her writing career after losing her job at the British Steel Corporation in 1980. She also wrote under the pseudonym Elizabeth Chaplin. McGown passed away on April 6, 2007, in Kettering, Northamptonshire.
