Jerzy Pierzchała was a Polish mountaineer and alpinist born on March 17, 1914, in Kraków, Poland, and passed away on January 3, 2002, in London. He was familiar with the Tatra Mountains from childhood and began climbing in 1928. He fought in World War II, participating in various campaigns, and after the war, settled permanently in England in 1946. His writings about Tatra expeditions were published in 'Taternik' from 1934 to 1939, and he also climbed in the Alps and was part of an English expedition to Iceland in the early 1950s.
