He serves as the assistant principal double bass with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York City. Originally from Toronto, Ontario, he was raised in Ottawa and started musical training at age six. McCoy developed an interest in double bass during his school years and studied under various notable instructors before earning his Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music.
