Jelena de Belder-Kovačič was a Slovenian-Belgian botanist and gardener, renowned for her expertise in plant classification and conservation. She gained international recognition for developing the Arboretum Kalmthout. Many plants she cultivated were awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society in London, and she earned the title of Baroness for her contributions to dendrology. In 1998, she was appointed vice president of the Royal Horticultural Society. Born in Yugoslavia, she studied horticulture in various European countries before settling in Belgium, where she produced significant hybrids and wrote cookbooks and documentaries.
