Jean-Marie Lehn is a French chemist born on September 30, 1939, in Alsace. He started his career at the National Centre for Scientific Research from 1960 to 1966 and then joined the University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, becoming a professor in 1970. In 1979, he became a professor at the Institute of France. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1987 for his work on 'molecular recognition,' which led to the emergence of a new branch of chemistry known as supramolecular chemistry. He also received the Davy Medal in 1997 and was appointed to the Higher Council for Science in 2006.
