Jean-Édouard Goby (1908-1992) was a French engineer of the Ponts-et-Chaussées who worked for the Suez Canal Company from 1938 to 1956, with assignments in Port-Taufiq, Port-Fouad, and Ismailia. A historian of the Suez Canal and Egypt, he co-founded the Society for Historical and Geographical Studies of the Isthmus of Suez in 1946. After the canal's nationalization, he participated in negotiations with the Egyptian government and wrote for the Bulletin historique et géographique de l’Isthme de Suez. He was elected a member of the Institut d’Égypte in 1947.
