Jean-Claude de l’Estrac, born on February 17, 1948, in Quatre-Bornes, Mauritius, is a Mauritian writer, journalist, businessman, politician, and diplomat. He was involved with the Mauritius Militant Movement in the 1970s and served as the mayor of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill. He was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and later became the Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Commission from 2012 to 2016. Notable for co-founding various media outlets and the Association of Journalists in Mauritius, he is recognized as an influential cultural figure.
