Jean Bourgoint was a French Catholic religious figure born on June 25, 1905, in Montmartre and died in Garoua on March 11, 1966. He was an inspiration for Jean Cocteau's novel 'Les Enfants terribles', where he and his sister Jeanne were portrayed as characters. A Trappist monk known as 'Brother Pascal', he dedicated his life to caring for lepers in Cameroon. He is remembered as the 'unintentional hero' of Cocteau's work, with his sister's tragic death echoing the events of the novel.
