Javier Pulgar Vidal (January 2, 1911 – May 18, 2003) was a Peruvian geographer renowned for his seminal work on the 'eight natural regions of Peru'. His innovative classification diverged from the traditional three-region model, recognizing eight distinct altitudinal zones from the Pacific coast to the Amazon based on climate, geography, fauna, and flora. These regions include Chala, Yunga, Quechua, Suni, Puna, Janca, Rupa-Rupa, and Omagua. Pulgar studied at the National College of Mining and the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, contributing significantly to the understanding of Peru's geography.
