Jan Voorhoeve was a linguist and one of the founders of Creolist studies, born in Jombang, East Java, on June 19, 1923. He focused on Surinamese poetry and prose and contributed numerous scholarly works, including articles for the Tijdschrift voor Surinaamse Taalkunde, Letterkunde en Geschiedenis. Additionally, he authored 'Dikke Ikke en de Rest', a collection of folk tales from Suriname featuring the character Anansi, published in Amsterdam in 1980. He passed away in Paris on January 30, 1983.
