Jan Toman (1933—1996) was a Czech botanist known for his research on seed plants, particularly within the Asteraceae family and the genus Petasites. In 1972, he published a detailed taxonomic review of the genera Petasites and Endocellion, introducing significant classifications based on both traditional characteristics and sexual analysis of the flowers. His research led to the reclassification of certain species from Nardosmia to Petasites and identified new taxa. Toman's findings have been recognized and confirmed in later studies.
