He championed the regional language in Drenthe and developed educational materials, including a Drents language course and lesson packages for primary education. Tissing was also involved in media, frequently appearing on Radio Noord and RTV Drenthe. He contributed to various language committees and was a teacher before engaging in dialect advocacy. Married with two children, he was active in nature conservation and local organizations.
