Jan Montyn was a Dutch artist born on November 13, 1924, who specialized in etching and was particularly known for his paintings depicting wars, which he witnessed firsthand. Raised in a conservative Calvinistic family in Oudewater, Montyn joined the German navy during World War II and served on the eastern front. Following the war, he lived in both France and the Netherlands, and his artworks are exhibited in prominent locations such as the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. He passed away in Amsterdam on August 10, 2015.
