Jan Gay, born Helen Reitman in 1902, was a German-born American journalist, author, and activist known for her significant contributions to the awareness of gay and lesbian issues in the early 20th century. Collaborating with Magnus Hirschfeld at the Institute for Sexual Science, Gay's work in the 1930s played a crucial role in studying sex variants. She authored numerous children's books and a notable treatise on nudism, 'On Going Naked.' Gay passed away in California in 1960 at the age of 58.
