Jan-Erik Edström was a Swedish geneticist born in 1931. He obtained his doctorate in 1953 at the University of Gothenburg. In 1964, he became a professor of histology at Umeå University, later transitioning to molecular genetics at Lund's Wallenberg Laboratory and the Karolinska Institute. His academic contributions earned him election to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1986. Edström's research significantly advanced the field of genetics in Sweden.
