Jan Berend van der Velde, known by the pen name Ben Frey, was a writer and poet from Ousterwolde, born on August 17, 1924, and passed away on April 27, 2012, in Enske. He began writing at a young age and later contributed significantly to the Twents language literature from 1979, at a time when it was not widely practiced. Van der Velde also served as the editor for the literary magazine De Moespot until 1995, paving the way for future Twents writers and performers.
