Jan Adam Nijholt was a Dutch chemist born on May 23, 1903, in Almelo. He worked for many years in Buitenzorg (now Bogor) and later served the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) after his retirement. In the Netherlands, he was involved in founding the COC, an organization advocating for LGBTQ rights. He identified as a principled vegetarian, pacifist, and was openly homosexual. Nijholt contributed to the scientific community while also advocating for social issues during his lifetime.
