James Yap was a Chinese Filipino basketball player born on Gulangyu Island, Xiamen, China in 1933. He moved to the Philippines at age five and was educated at Chiang Kai-shek College. He represented the Republic of China in various international tournaments, including the 1954 FIBA World Basketball Championship and the Asian Games. Yap competed in the 1956 and 1960 Olympic Games as part of the ROC squad. He passed away in 2003.
