James Rainwater was an American physicist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1975, jointly with Ben Roy Mottelson and Aage Bohr, for their research on the asymmetric shapes of atomic nuclei. He was born on December 9, 1917, in Counsel, Idaho, and passed away on May 31, 1986. Rainwater worked at Hanford, California, and also held a position at Columbia University.
