James P. Allison is an American immunologist born on August 7, 1948, in Alice, Texas. He is a professor of immunology at the University of Texas at Austin and the director of the MD Anderson Center for Cancer Research. His research has played a significant role in treating several deadly cancers, specializing in Tc cell research. He was the first to isolate the antigen that activates T cells. In 2014, he became a board member of the New York Cancer Research Institute. In 2018, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on immune checkpoint inhibition in cancer.
