James Arthur Nielsen was a Canadian politician who served in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1975 to 1986 as a member of the Social Credit Party. He was appointed the first Minister of Environment and held several cabinet positions including Minister of Health. Known for his tough but fair approach, he earned the nickname 'The Fonz' from Premier Bill Bennett. After politics, he chaired the Workers Compensation Board of British Columbia from 1987 to 1989. Previously, he was a broadcaster before entering the political arena.
