Jack Simcock was a British painter born on June 6, 1929, in Biddulph, Staffordshire, into a mining family. He studied at Burslem School of Art and became known for his bleak and sombre oil paintings depicting the Mow Cop area. He began exhibiting at the Piccadilly Gallery in London in 1957 and had over fifty solo shows worldwide. His art is featured in various UK public collections. Simcock also published an autobiography and a book of poetry in 1975. He passed away on May 13, 2012, just before an exhibition opening at Keele University.
