John 'Jack' Francis Short is a former Irish cricketer and civil servant born in Cork on April 12, 1951. He was educated at Presentation Brothers College and graduated from University College Cork in 1974. As a cricketer, he played for Cork County and made his debut for Ireland in 1974, participating in the first-ever List A match in 1980. He played eleven first-class matches, scoring 533 runs, including a high score of 114, and five List A matches, scoring 97 runs. His playing career ended in 1984 when he joined the OECD in Paris.
