Joachim Michael Nitschke, known as Mike Nitschke, was a German-American physicist born on April 27, 1939, in Berlin, Germany. He co-discovered the artificially produced chemical element seaborgium in 1974 and actively studied the chemical properties of rutherfordium and dubnium in 1970. Nitschke worked in the Nuclear Science Division at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. Additionally, he was a competitive rower for West Germany, participating in the Tokyo Olympics in 1964.
