She is best recognized for the Harry Potter fantasy series, which has sold over 500 million copies and won numerous awards. The books were adapted into a highly successful film series. Rowling conceived the idea for Harry Potter in 1990 during a train delay. Over seven years, she faced personal challenges, including her mother's death, the birth of her first child, and a divorce, before publishing Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997.
