John Anthony Cuddon (June 2, 1928 - March 12, 1996) was an English author, lexicographer, and schoolteacher. He is best known for his literary terms dictionary, which was described as 'scholarly, concise, comprehensive and enjoyable.' Cuddon also authored the Macmillan Dictionary of Sports and Games, encompassing two million words related to various sports. He published novels, plays, travel books, and edited significant anthologies like The Penguin Book of Ghost Stories. He taught English and coached rugby and cricket at Emmanuel School in London.
