He played a pivotal role in the development and construction of the Subaru Telescope from 1988 to 2001, contributing to key technological advancements, including control algorithms for the telescope's mirror systems and the design of the dome to reduce fluctuations from wind and heat. After a fire during construction on Mauna Kea in 1996, he led recovery efforts on-site and established operations for ongoing maintenance and smooth handover of the telescope.
