Isabel Crook was a Canadian anthropologist who spent most of her life in China. Born in Chengdu in 1915 to Canadian missionary parents, she returned to China after graduating in 1939 to work in the Yi villages of Sichuan. Her extensive research culminated in the influential book 'Revolution in a Chinese Village'. Isabel and her husband faced challenges during the Cultural Revolution, including imprisonment and restrictions, but remained committed to their work. She was honored with the Friendship Medal by Xi Jinping in 2019 and died in Beijing at the age of 107 in 2023.
