Irma Muse Dixon is a notable African-American politician and social worker born on July 18, 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She made history as the first woman elected to the Louisiana Public Service Commission (PSC), serving from 1992 to 2004, after previously representing District 95 in the Louisiana House from 1988 to 1992. Dixon received a commendation in 2004 for her service on the PSC and has held various appointed roles in local and state government. In 2009, she became the head of the non-profit organization Beacon of Hope.
