Ilya Yakovlevich Polyakov (1912–1992) was a Soviet zoologist and an eminent figure in the science community of the RSFSR. He held a Doctorate in Agricultural Sciences and served as a professor. For over 40 years, he headed the laboratory for forecasting the reproduction of mass pests at the All-Russian Research Institute of Plant Protection in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). He is recognized as the founder of the domestic school of forecasting in plant protection and was a respected expert in research coordination in the field across the member countries of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA).
