Ilmārs Bernāns was a Latvian alpinist born on October 8, 1954, and he passed away on December 9, 2003, in Aoraki, New Zealand. He summited four peaks over 7000 meters in the Pamirs and Tian Shan, earning him the Snow Leopard title, one of the highest climbing honors. He participated in Latvia's first expedition to the Himalayas in 1993 but did not reach the summit of Dhaulagiri. In addition to his climbing achievements, he was also involved in business.
