He is known for being the founder and first chairman of the Pskov branch of the Union of Writers. During World War II, he led underground resistance in the Strugo-Krasnensky District and served in the reconnaissance brigade of the 6th Leningrad Partisan Brigade. Since 2014, the Saint Petersburg branch of the Union of Writers of Russia and the poet's memorial fund have held an international poetry competition in his honor, along with readings named after him.
