Igor Stanislavovich Astapovich was a Soviet astronomer born on December 29, 1907, in Volchansk, Kharkov Governorate. He is known for his research on meteors and meteorites, as well as for his role in organizing scientific research. He made significant contributions to astronomy, notably discovering the gas tail of Earth. Astapovich passed away on January 2, 1976, in Kyiv.
