Ifti Nasim was a gay Pakistani American poet who, after moving to the U.S. to escape persecution, became a prominent figure in the LGBT community. He founded Sangat, an organization dedicated to supporting South Asian LGBTQ youth. His poetry collection 'Narman' was groundbreaking as it was the first to openly express homosexual themes in the Urdu language. In recognition of his contributions to the LGBT community, he was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 1996. Nasim's work and activism played a significant role in advocating for LGBTQ rights and representation.
