Idar Laurits Karevold was a Norwegian music professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music. He served as a guest lecturer at Augsburg College in 1975 and later held the position of associate professor from 1976 and became a full professor in 2004 at the same institution. He was a music contributor for Aftenposten for many years and was an educated organist. In 2007, he published a book on Johann Sebastian Bach's Six Sonatas, the first work on this subject since 1957, and he also contributed to the editing of the first volume of Norwegian music history.
