Ibrāhīm al-Usṭá was a Libyan poet born in Derna on November 21, 1908. A soldier of Arab thought, he viewed nationalism as transcending tribalism and focused on a broader humanism. He traveled to Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Jordan, where he engaged with various writers and activists. Upon returning to Derna, he led the Umar al-Mukhtar Association and served as a local judge. Al-Usṭá is recognized for his contributions to Libyan Romanticism and for advocating for freedom, both through his poetry and resistance efforts. He tragically drowned at sea on September 26, 1950.
