Ian MacLeay, born on December 7, 1931, was an Anglican priest educated at St Edmund Hall, Oxford. After his ordination in 1958, he served in various parishes, including as Rector of St Michael's, Inverness. He was also Priest in charge of St Columba's and St John the Baptist's until 1978. MacLeay became a canon of St Andrew's Cathedral and served as Synod Clerk for the Diocese of Argyll and The Isles before becoming Dean of Argyll and The Isles in 1987, a role he held for twelve years.
