Regarded as one of the world's leading authorities on Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party Germany, he is particularly known for his biographies of Hitler. Kershaw studied under the German historian Martin Broszat, whom he acknowledged as an inspiring mentor. Until his retirement, he was a professor at the University of Sheffield and served as a historical advisor for BBC documentaries like 'The Nazis: A Warning from History'.
