He has chaired British Plaster Board, Wm Morrison Supermarkets, and Trinity Mirror, among others, and served as Deputy Chairman of ASDA plc. Gibson's career began in the automotive sector at Ford, where he spent 15 years before joining Nissan, eventually becoming Chief Executive in the UK and Europe. He was honored with a CBE in 1990 and knighted in 1999. He currently resides in York with his wife and has three children, one being a Financial Times assistant editor.
